KTE does not run a social programme - for that, the Kemp
Town Society is the place - but we provide a very nice
venue for parties and barbeques in summer. The biggest party
is always the Summer Garden Party of the Kemp Town Society,
where the whole membership is invited and we might have
over 100 people.
Throughout the summer and probably twice a week people
give parties for 20-30 guests. We do not offer a marquee
and so are somewhat dependent on the weather, but most people
have been lucky. We make no charge for the use of the Garden,
but insist that everything is cleared up, and people have
been very good about that. Our second-biggest event in 2004
was a lesbian wedding, and there have been parties for up
to 50 guests.
We only ask people to notify us and ask permission if they
are planning to have more than 20 guests, and smaller parties,
particularly for children, are an almost daily occurence.
The gardens are large and can accommodate multiple functions.
One or two no-nos:
There is so much space that residents can always find a
quiet corner, even on those wonderful hot summer days.
