Starting from 1820 Antony Dale gives an entertaining yet authoritative account of the architecture, planning development and social life of the city, describing the work of the outstanding personalities of the time such as Thomas Read Kemp, the promoter of Kemp Town; the architects Charles Augustin Busby, Amon Wilds and the latter's son, Amon Henry Wilds; and the great contractor Thomas Cubitt.

Badgers Tennis Club is a small but delightful club in the centre of Kemp Town. Building on 100 years of history, the club gives players the chance to learn the game and improve their technique. Badgers has recently been modernised with 3 new hard courts, 1 new carpet court. On offer at Badgers is a full programme of activities including coaching, tournaments, social events and club afternoons with, of course, tea and cakes.
